Meetup June 28, 2025

Mitch will follow up on his presentation from last year of doing songs in common chord progressions, but this time he will focus on 12-bar blues patterns in popular songs. No song list to be printed because we are going to learn specific progressions and then play along to popular recordings. He will add some techniques to emulate what’s going on in each recording. Playing along with recordings is something people never do, but we’d get a lot better, a lot faster, if we did.

Mitch will also show us the ONE secret to mastering fingerpicking. From a guy who’s classically trained!

Our schedule:

9 AM to 9:45 AM – The first part of this hour Ellen and Gary will both present their variations on the Travis picking technique. Then Mark will lead us in the first group sing/strum of his fabulous arrangement of “Pink Shoelaces”. Click here to download Pink Shoelaces for Mark’s segment.

10:00 to 11:15 AM – Guest leader Mitch Chang will take us through his presentation of the 12 bar blues in popular tunes.

11:15 AM to 11:40 – Individual performance time! I really hope we can get many people to sign up. I would love to see some of our new Strummers stretch their wings. Then we need to pack up and exit the building before Noon.

It is very important to the church that we have completely exited the building and cleaned up behind us before the next group arrives. So, depending on the number of performance signups, we may or may not get to all of them. Any member who signs up but does not get to perform will be moved to the top of the list for the next meeting.

Any member who wishes to be a guest presenter/teacher needs to contact me weeks before the meeting, let me know what you plan to present and provide me early copies of any material you will be handing out.

As there are only a few music stands readily available to us, if you have a music stand, please bring it with you.
